Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) brought up a topic of unpleasantness at last night’s IRS hearings, the Articles of Impeachment against Richard Nixon and the similarities to the actions taken by the Obama IRS.
Rep. Gosar, as part of the House Oversight Committee, asked Obama IRS Commissioner John Koskinen if he was aware that one of the reasons why Richard Nixon was facing impeachment, before resigning in disgrace, was his use of the IRS as a political weapon, in a way eerily similar to the Obama regime:
Are you aware that in the Articles of Impeachment of Richard Nixon, in articles II, item number one, and let me quote this:
“He has, acting personally and through his subordinates and agents, endeavored to obtain from the Internal Revenue Service, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, confidential information contained in income tax returns for purposes not authorized by law, and to cause, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, income tax audits or other income tax investigations to be initiated or conducted in a discriminatory manner.”
Are you aware of that?
“I do recall that,” Koskinen answered.
“That’s why it’s serious,” Congressman Gosar interjected. “I mean if there’s one thing I can tell you, that’s the dark light on our history.”
Rep. Gosar then asked the Obama IRS head why it took a lawsuit, under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), to get emails that Congress had earlier requested.
Koskinen then unbelievably answers that he “wasn’t aware of the Judicial Watch problem,” which causes Gosar to ask in disbelief if Koskinen ever reads the newspaper, since the Judicial Watch emails completely dominated the news cycle only two months ago.
“I do read the newspaper, yes,” Koskinen answered while chuckling.
